Happy Towel Day!

Hello! Long time no post! I haven't written a whole lot lately, sorry about that. It's finals week here so.... Anyway, only 2 more left! Earth Science on tuesday and French in shortly after. So I don't have a whole lot of time to write about an outfit right now, but I thought I'd share some fun stuff I've found in the last few weeks. 70's coming next wednesday.

Wake County, my school district, made it big on this Buzz Feed post!

Olive Us, a really cute video series, introduced us to the Little Red riding hood in french

Rhett and Link made the new Star Trek movie into a musical.

James Potter, Harry's son, has adventures now too!

Speaking of Star Trek, have you seen into darkness yet? I loved it. My friend, K. didn't like it as much, but I loved the whole Wrath of Khan thing it had going on. Benedict didn't quite have the Khan Hair  thing going on, but he was still great. Kirk is still a jerk, Spock is still hilarious, and I still want to go to school on vulcan. This was my favourite clip from the movie. Ears burning? Okay, bye.

The Bedside Stack

Yeah, it's a fashion blog, but you know what, it's my blog and I can write about whatever I want. Wednesdays will be Project days, and the rest of the week, I can post reviews, recipes, diys, and other stuff. Maybe I'll even do some give-aways. Anyway, today. Everyone has a few books they can read over and over again. I like to call this, "The bedside stack". They're the books you keep next to your bed, on your bedstand or the floor. So what are yours? Today I'd like to share mine.

The Willoughbys (Literally the funniest book I've ever read)
What Einstein Told His Cook (the only nonfiction book there)
Hans Christian Anderson's fairytales (link is not to the same edition I have, sorry)
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Half Blood Prince is actually my fav, but I keep it on my shelf because it's the right width to fill a hole there)

My other favorites, not included in the picture, are:
Lord of the Rings
The Hobbit
Alice in Wonderland/ Through the Looking Glass
Wuthering Heights

P.S. I love christmas lights all year long. I draped these over my headboard as a reading light!
They create a really warm colour pattern on the walls!

Day 4- The 1950's!

I love the 50's. I mean, what a great time for a caucasian male! If you were African American or Female, well.... But still! I mean, I LOVE Lucy

And, I mean, wasn't Grease just the greatest? Tight pants and all!
And my favourite part of the 50's...
THE DOCTOR!!!!! 1953! And I like Rose's skirt.
Any way, now for the actual post.

{The inspiration}

50's plaid! This may be a bit extreme, but I love the swishy skirt and white blouse. Plus the vintage magazine cover is so me. My kitchen is decorated in vintage vinyl covers and old Nat Geos. Anyway, my mom was in high school in the 70's, and according to the 20 year rule I should be able to find something 50's in her closet...

{the interpretation}

I paired a white peter pan collared shirt with a full plaid skirt. The skirt is spot on, but I with the blouse was a bit more... blouse-y, I guess. Other than that, I think I did pretty well. (the lips in the corner are a shout out to Lucy's red lipstick, see above). Definitely the best yet.

Day 3- 1940's

The Inspiration-

I love these coats. They are simple, and the pleats in the skirt seem very classy. Okay, the real reason I like them is that they remind me of the (10th) doctor's trench coat. 3 more days guys! But they are very classy and very 40's.
The Interpretation-

We now have colour film! I chose a light blue coat with, yes, SHOULDER PADS, and a sharp collar. I added a dark belt. I curled my hair and added a head scarf. Also, I think my quilt is kinda 40's. Anyway, hopefully next week shouldn't be 40's again.

The notes:
I think this is the best one I've done so far. The main miss was the pleats and double breasted buttons. However, the collar and the pockets are very perfect.

Day 2- 1930's

The Inspiration-
I took inspiration from the dress on the left. I loved the slightly puffed sleeves and button front, and somehow the collar makes it seem a bit stronger. I couldn't find anything quite like this, but I found a similar dress in a shorter style.
The interpretation
I used a sepia filter, but the dress is a blue denim. It has  the same button up style and collar, but the belt is different and the dress is shorter. I left my hair straight.

The Notes-

I could have done better on this one, but the style is still similar. I really wish I could have found a longer dress, or something with pleats. I think one of the quintessential items of the great depression area fashion was the floral print, but after finding this simplicity pattern, I couldn't help myself.

Cheers,
Sofie

Day 1: The 1920's

The inspiration:
Isn't she pretty? I love the dropped waist and long pearls. The sparkly headband and bangle are also fun. I changed it up a bit...
The interpretation:
I used a drop-waisted grey dress I already had, along with a pink bangle, pearls and brown knee high socks. For my hair, I added some curl at the tips and topped it off with a glittery flower headband.

The notes:
I think that this outfit thoroughly encompasses the nature of the 1920's. It's fun, simple, and very classy. The glitter and beads show the extravagance of the 20's and really tell you about how people spent. Some points this outfit is missing that I would have loved to have are: That cocktail ring on her left pinky. I also love the straight neckline and low, glittered straps. I also wish my necklace went lower. Other than that, however, I really think I hit the nail on it's head with this one!

Cheers,
Sofie.

p.s. Feel free to comment and share!

What is the Costume Project? Who am I?

Hi! My name is Sofie Holmes, and I am an 8th grade student at a not to be named middle school in a state in a country. Anyway, I noticed that the history and English department at my nondescript middle school needed a bit of color, and maybe some creativity. Heck, the math and science could use some too, but for now, let's just stick to History and English. Anyways, I thought I needed to do something. When I attack a problem, I like to think about my skills. When I attacked this problem, the first think I thought about was "Dress Up". I love dress-up, and I think that what you wear is a great way to express yourself. So how could I incorporate dress up into American History and Lit? Well, the idea came because we were studying the 1920's and post WWI area in social studies. We read a bit about how women dressed in the 1920's and I was inspired. "Why not dress up based on the time in history we are studying?" I thought. Wouldn't it be fun to dress up as a different character every week? So that's what I decided to do. Every Wednesday from now to the end of the year, I will wear a costume inspired by my English or History class. It'll be fun, crazy, and maybe I'll be able to get some other kids to join in!
